Dual Diagnosis

What is Dual Diagnosis?

The term dual diagnosis is used to describe patients who need treatment for more than one issue. In many cases an addict who has been suffering from alcohol or drug dependency will also have psychiatric issues such as depression or anxiety. In many cases, these problems occur as a direct result of the addiction or chemical abuse itself. However, emotional issues can also be the root of the addiction to start with. An addict may begin using to deter the symptoms of a psychiatric problem or the problems could stem from overexposure to drugs or alcohol due to a long term addiction.

At our drug treatment and rehab facility, we focus on all aspects of dual diagnosis. We will work with the patient to learn about what problems they may be suffering from besides the addiction itself. Drug treatment is a multifaceted process. There is more to drug detox and rehab than just what meets the eye. It is not all about getting an addict off of their drug of choice. There are many emotional aspects to be considered. The way the patient feels, the way the addiction has affected their life, and what psychological changes have occurred are all things that have to be addressed in order to find and maintain sobriety. You cannot fix one problem and not the other, or the entire attempt at sobriety has a good chance of failure.

Dual diagnosis is just one of the many drug treatment techniques that we focus on to help our patients recover from their addiction. We have a deep understanding that drug rehab should be done in an environment that is medically supervised, offers psychological evaluations and counseling, and covers all aspects of the problem at hand. By attacking the addiction head on with all of our tools of knowledge, we have the ability to help people get back to living their life and maintaining their sobriety.

If you would like to learn more about dual diagnosis, or any other drug treatment program or technique that we have to offer, give us a call at (301) 747-3237. This is our center and we will be happy to help you answer any questions that you have about the drug rehab process and seeking sobriety. Remember, making the call is the first step to getting help.
